Construction employment changes in September
Published November 13th, 2012

There was a mixed a fact when the statistics came back for employment changes between September 2011 and September 2012. Employment declined in 28 states during that time while 30 states added new jobs. This continued a trend in a change from August of last year to August of this year. One reason for the decline in jobs is because owners of projects are waiting to see what’s going to happen with the economy. The results of the presidential election may give project owners light onto which way the economy may change in the next year. In December the impact of this change may be seen in November’s job changes. Among the 28 states that lost jobs in the last year were Alaska, New Jersey, Nevada, and Illinois. Among the 30 states that added new construction jobs were Nebraska, Missouri, Texas and North Dakota. The continuing fluctuation in construction employment can be seen in the job changes year over year. While the economy has improved in that many new jobs have been created, the overall uncertainty of the economy has made some areas decline in new jobs for construction. Financial issues and rising cost of materials have been other contributing factors to construction employment. UTCLC may be able to help you with creating a new area of expertise.
