Dispelling Common Myths About Self-Employment
Published September 22nd, 2017

When you think about being self-employed, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Is it the freedom to be your own boss and control your destiny? Or is it the overwhelming fear of everything you would have to do to make it happen?

Today we are dispelling some of the more common myths of being self-employed.

Myth:  You are responsible for doing everything when you are self-employed.

Reality:  Being self-employed does come with a great deal of responsibility, but part of that responsibility is knowing what you are not capable of doing and delegating the work to someone who can complete it. There are many ways to go about it, but the reality is simple. You do not have to do every single thing yourself when you are self-employed.

Myth:  Being self-employed forces you to work long hours.

Reality:  Most people who put in long hours when they work for someone else feel like they have no choice in the matter. A person who is self-employed and works long hours, on the other hand, makes a conscious decision to do so. They choose long hours because they love what they do and they want to do it well.

Myth:  Self-employment is stressful and lonely.

Reality:  Working can be stressful. Period. The types of stress you experience working for a company may be different from when you are self-employed, but they still exist. And loneliness? Chances are that you will be less lonely when you are self-employed because working alone reminds you that you need to seek people out.

Did you know that many construction tradesmen are self-employed? If you are thinking about following in their footsteps,  contact us  today with any questions you might have. We would love to help you move closer to your dream!
