Utah General Contractors can Save Money on Supplies
Posted on June 21st, 2012

With rising gas costs and a tight economy, Utah general contractors are looking at ways to save money and keep overhead low. One cost that is often difficult to control is supply costs. As you don’t always know what you will need for each project, it isn’t always easy to create strategies to lower supply costs. Here are few suggestions that may help you with your supply costs this summer.

Buy in Bulk

If you know that you will have several similar projects to complete this summer there are some products you may be able to buy in bulk. This will help reduce the initial cost, and you can spread that cost among several different clients. If you make your purchases carefully, you should also be able to reduce excess inventory.

Reuse centers

There are several different centers that sell new or used building materials. If your client approves and the products are in good condition, this is one possible option. ReStores by Habitat for Humanity, reuse stores and demolition centers are some possible places to check into for used building materials.

Try Trading

It is possible that other general contractors have excess inventory and will sell you the materials. You may even want to start a networking group where contractors can let others know materials they need or material they are looking to get rid of. This will help everyone save money, and help create a way for general contractors communicate with one another.

Finding ways to help save money on supplies can help Utah general contractors cut costs and increase profits without increasing prices. Maintaining the balance between enough inventory and preventing overages isn’t easy but it can be done. With a little planning and a willingness to communicate with other general contractors can help you save money on building supplies this summer.
