Veterans Could Provide Solution to Labor Shortage
Published November 21st, 2016

We've been discussing the labor shortage for quite some time now. In Utah, construction is strong, but with a shortage of workers, there could be problems coming down the road. The good news is, there are also solutions. One such solution is a definite win-win scenario for everyone - especially if you are a military veteran, an actively drilling member of the Utah National Guard, or a spouse of someone who is. It's called the ACE program, short for Accelerated Credentialing to Employment, and is designed to help Utah veterans overcome barriers to employment or better employment by assisting them in attaining certificates and licenses using their military training and experience or by assisting with short-term training. These certificates and licenses could include contracting licenses. The ACE Program is intended to provide an avenue for eligible participants to gain employment in the civilian job market by capitalizing on their past experience, training, and knowledge or by assisting them with short-term training that leads to a certificate or license. The program can serve Utah Veterans, active Military Personnel, actively drilling members of the Guard and Reserve and the Spouses of the aforementioned as long as they have served at least one day of honorable service in a branch of the armed services.  There are four ACE specialists covering the state of Utah, and each specialist is assigned to several different counties. These specialists can aid in identifying military skills that translate into civilian career opportunities, provide job readiness training, and help with job searches, among other things. For more information on the ACE program and to find the specialist for your area, please click the following link: http://jobs.utah.gov/jobseeker/veterans/07_72.pdf
