Hearing Protection Goes Mobile
Published February 16th, 2017
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), at the 2017 International Builders’ Show, announced a new mobile app that measures sound levels in the workplace.

A new app called the NIOSH Sound Level Meter has been designed specifically for construction sites. The app uses your device's built-in microphone to pull in sounds from the work environment and the gives you real-time feedback. Stats shown include instantaneous sound level, equivalent sound level, time-weighted average and noise dose based on NIOSH and Occupational Safety and Health Administration limits.

NIOSH hopes that the app will give employers the opportunity to raise awareness for noise awareness among their employees and help them better protect their hearing.

Currently available only for iOS devices, you can download it for free on the iTunes store,
